Halifax Regional Municipality

Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is the local government that serves residents of Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, and surrounding rural communities. It was formed in 1996 through the amalgamation of the former cities of Halifax and Dartmouth, the town of Bedford, and Halifax County. HRM is responsible for almost everything at the municipal level that impacts day-to-day life — from your garbage pickup and buses, to policing, parks, fire services, land use, and community programs.
