Healthy aging in Rural Alberta

Written by Rimbey Community Home Help Services | Aug 17, 2026, 4:07:53 PM

Rural Alberta is the backbone of many industries that drive both our provincial and national economies. Agriculture, oil and gas, forestry, mining, and emerging industries all depend on the strength and resilience of rural communities.

While rural living may seem isolated to those in urban centres, these communities are built on strong connections and a shared commitment to helping one another. The phrase “it takes a village” holds special meaning here. Neighbours support neighbours, volunteers step forward when needed, and local organizations work together to ensure communities continue to thrive.

Rimbey Community Home Help Services reflects that rural spirit. We are fortunate to have more than 80 dedicated volunteers, ranging in age from 12 to over 90 years old, who contribute their time and talents to strengthening our community.

The quality of health care in rural Alberta is rooted in personal relationships. The people we care for are not simply clients; they are our friends, neighbours, and family members. Our team is dedicated to preserving rural living through compassionate, client-focused care that supports aging in place, allowing seniors to remain safely and comfortably in their own homes and communities for as long as possible.

Health Care Program Manager, Tresa Lowe, leads our health care team with compassion, professionalism, and strong leadership, modelling the values that guide our organization every day. Together, our staff are committed to supporting healthy aging, independence, dignity, and quality of life for rural seniors.

In addition to home care services, we offer an Adult Day and Evening Support Program every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Our Community Connector Handi-Bus provides transportation and opportunities for seniors and program participants to enjoy outings both within and beyond our local communities, helping them stay engaged and connected.

We are also proud to offer rewarding career opportunities with competitive wages ranging from $27.81 to $31.46 per hour, comprehensive benefits, training, RRSP and TFSA programs, and other employee incentives.

Rural living offers a unique quality of life worth preserving. The slower pace, strong social connections, and sense of community help people live well, age with dignity, and remain connected to the places they proudly call home. By supporting aging in place, we help ensure that rural seniors can continue to enjoy the comfort, independence, and relationships that matter most.
